5 recalls across 7 model years
The Hyundai Venue has 5 recalls covering 2020 through 2024 model years, with the most serious being exploding front seatbelt pretensioners on 2020-2022 vehicles that can scatter metal fragments into the cabin and strike occupants in a crash.
The pretensioner issue spans the 2020-2022 model years and affects both the driver and front passenger seatbelts. Rather than tensioning the belt as intended during a crash, the pretensioner can rupture and send metal pieces toward the people it is meant to protect. On 2024 models, an electrical short in the exhaust gas recirculation valve can cut drive power without warning, raising the risk of a crash.
The 2022 model year has a separate issue: certain vehicles were assembled with the wrong center console cover, leaving an exposed shift lock release button instead of a blank panel. Pressing that button allows the transmission to be shifted out of park without a key in the ignition or a foot on the brake, and if the parking brake is not set, the vehicle can roll away on its own.
