The Indian Chieftain Classic has 3 recalls covering 2017-2019 model years, with the most serious being a Vehicle Control Module electrical connection failure on 2018-2019 models that can cut power to the front lights, including the headlight, reducing the rider's visibility at night or in low-light conditions.
The 2018 model year is also subject to a recall where the motorcycle can start on its own without rider input. If the bike starts unintentionally while parked in an enclosed space, carbon monoxide can accumulate and pose a risk to anyone nearby. On 2017-2018 models, some motorcycles were fitted with a European-market halogen headlight assembly rather than the correct US-market unit, which produces different light output and can reduce how well the motorcycle is seen by other road users.
