INFINITI QX30 Recalls

The INFINITI QX30 has 9 recalls covering the 2017–2018 model years, with the most serious being a steering shaft universal joint defect on 2017 models where a loosening bearing can eventually separate and cause a complete loss of steering control. The 2017 model year also has a separate concern where the driver's frontal airbag can deploy without warning if electrostatic discharge occurs in combination with a broken clockspring and insufficient grounding in the steering system; that same inadvertent deployment risk extends to 2018 models as well. On the passive safety side, certain 2017 vehicles built in a narrow window between August and September 2016 have a passenger frontal airbag inflator that can fail to fire in a crash, leaving the front passenger without airbag protection. The driver-side curtain airbag on 2017 models has a related issue where the inflator may not deploy properly in a crash, again reducing occupant protection. Rounding out the 2018-specific issues, the right-side front seatbelt lower anchorage bolt may have been installed incorrectly, and the anchor point can pull away from the vehicle in a crash, defeating the seatbelt's ability to restrain the occupant.
