10 recalls across 3 model years
The INFINITI QX30 has 10 recalls covering 2017–2019 model years, with the most serious being an inadvertent driver airbag deployment on 2017–2018 vehicles where a broken clockspring combined with insufficient steering component grounding can cause the airbag to fire without a crash, startling the driver and raising the risk of a collision.
The 2017 model year carries the heaviest recall load across safety systems. On the steering side, the universal joint on the steering shaft can loosen over time until the bearing separates entirely, leaving the driver with no steering control. Separately from the airbag deployment risk, 2017 vehicles also have multiple airbag deployment failure issues: the driver-side curtain airbag inflator may not ignite in a crash due to an off-spec chemical mixture, and both the passenger frontal airbag and the driver-side curtain airbag inflator initiators can fail to fire in a crash, leaving occupants without that protection. A narrow production window of 2017 vehicles built in late summer 2016 has a passenger airbag inflator initiator with the same failure mode.
On 2018 models, the bolt securing the right-side front seatbelt lower anchorage may have been incorrectly installed, and the anchor point can pull free in a crash, allowing the belt to release and leaving the occupant unrestrained at the moment of impact.
The least severe recall covers 2018–2019 vehicles and involves the backup camera, which can fail to display an image when reversing, reducing visibility behind the vehicle.
