19 recalls across 8 model years
The Jeep Gladiator has 19 recalls spanning 2020 through 2025, with the most serious being an overheating electric power steering pump wiring harness on 2021-2025 models that can start a fire even when the vehicle is parked and the ignition is off.
The steering pump fire risk shares its severity tier with several other issues on recent models. On 2023-2024 examples, a faulty clockspring can prevent the driver's airbag from deploying in a crash. The 2021-2022 model years with the 3.0L diesel engine have a high-pressure fuel pump that can fail and stall the engine without warning, a problem that persisted into 2023 on diesel-equipped models. On 2022 models, the transmission parking mechanism may not fully engage, allowing the vehicle to roll away when parked, and the front seatbelt pretensioners may fail to tighten the belt in a crash due to a weld defect in the retractor assembly. The 2021 model year also has a software issue in the powertrain control module that can cause an engine stall and loss of drive power.
The instrument panel on 2020-2024 models can suffer an internal short circuit that blacks out the speedometer and warning lights while driving. Manual-transmission equipped 2022-2023 models have a gear sensor problem that disables the rearview camera and the reverse lights simultaneously when backing up, a problem that also affected 2021 manual-transmission models through a separate radio software error. On 2021 models specifically, the rearview camera can fail to display at all. The 2020 model year has its own rearview camera issue where the image from an 8.4-inch or 12-inch display can linger after the driver shifts out of reverse, creating a distraction.
Going back to early production, 2020-2021 manual-transmission models have a clutch pressure plate that can overheat and fracture, raising the risk of fire, with that same defect extending through 2023 production. The 2020 model year has two driveshaft concerns: an ungreased rear driveshaft joint that can seize, fracture, and separate from the vehicle, and a related issue where the separated shaft becomes a road hazard for other drivers. The 2020 front seatbelt retractors may also fail to lock and properly restrain an occupant in a crash.
