Kia Borrego Recalls

The Kia Borrego has 8 recalls spanning 2008 through 2019, with the most serious being a brake system control unit that can short circuit on 2010-2019 models and start an engine compartment fire even when the vehicle is parked and turned off.

The 2009 model year has a separate brake concern: the pedal mount uses a fiberglass composition that can break off in a collision that leaves the vehicle still moving, leaving the driver unable to use the foot brake and relying on the parking brake to stop. There is also a headliner issue on 2009-2014 models where plates in the headliner are not properly secured and can detach and strike an occupant when the side curtain airbags deploy in a crash. The 2008 model year has a similar headliner plate issue tied specifically to side curtain airbag deployment.

Going back to the 2009 model year, the daytime running lamps are wired in a way that turns off both running lights when either turn signal is activated, which reduces visibility to other drivers. The same year also has a compliance label that omits required French translations for tire and rim information on vehicles sold in Canada, though this does not affect how the vehicle operates.
