KIA BORREGO Recalls

The Kia Borrego has 7 recalls spanning the 2008-2014 production run, with the most serious being a brake pedal mount defect on 2009 models where the mount can break in a collision, leaving the driver unable to use the brake pedal to stop a still-moving vehicle and increasing the risk of a second impact. The 2010 model year has a separate brake system concern: the hydraulic electronic control unit can short-circuit and start a fire, even when the vehicle is parked and off. Across nearly the full production run, 2008-2014 models have headliner plates that may not be properly secured and can detach and strike an occupant if the side curtain airbags deploy in a crash. The 2009 model year also has a daytime running lamp compliance issue where activating either turn signal extinguishes both running lamps, reducing vehicle visibility to other drivers. A compliance label on 2009 Canadian-market vehicles omits required French translations for tire and rim information, a paperwork issue that does not affect vehicle operation.
