Summary
The KTM 1290 Super Duke R has 7 recalls covering 2014 through 2022 model years, with the most widespread recent issue being a misrouted or unprotected wiring harness on 2020-2022 models that can short-circuit and stall the engine without warning.
The 2020-2022 wiring harness concern is the dominant recall across recent production. On these bikes, the main harness may be misrouted or missing protective sheathing, allowing wiring to contact surrounding components, melt, and short-circuit. A sudden engine stall at speed raises the risk of a crash. The 2020 model year is specifically also affected by a rear wiring harness that can chafe against the lower subframe, causing the same short-circuit and stall outcome.
Going back to the 2015 model year, the front brake master cylinder contains a plastic piston that can develop a crack, which would compromise front braking force and stopping ability.
On 2014 models, two related fuel system concerns affect the gas tank's threaded inserts at the rear of the tank. The inserts can leak fuel, and any nearby ignition source raises the risk of fire. These two filings describe the same underlying defect and were addressed as part of the same production-era fix.
