3 recalls across 2 model years
The Lexus LX 470 has 3 recalls covering 1998 and 2003 model years, with the most serious being a 2003 steering shaft defect where a snap ring can disengage after a hard front-wheel impact, and repeated full lock-to-lock steering inputs can eventually disconnect the shaft and cause a sudden total loss of steering.
The 2003 model year also has a recall involving the roll rate sensors inside the airbag control module. If the vehicle rocks or rolls its body roughly four seconds after the ignition is switched on, those sensors can miscalibrate, potentially causing the side curtain or rollover airbags to fire at the wrong time or fail to deploy when needed. On 1998 models equipped with a trailer towing wiring harness, the converter unit can allow water intrusion due to inadequate sealing, creating a short circuit that disables the converter and, when towing, causes the trailer lights to stop working.
