What can fail
The roll rate sensors in the airbag control module may miscalibrate if the vehicle tilts about four seconds after the ignition turns on. A second tilt could then cause the system to wrongly detect a rollover, deploying side curtain airbags and activating seat belt pre-tensioners when no crash occurs.
What the fix does
Dealers will replace the airbag control module with an updated version that has improved programming to prevent this miscalibration.
