13 recalls across 20 model years
The Lexus IS 350 has 13 recalls covering 2006 through 2019 model years, with the most serious recent issue being a fuel pump failure on 2014–2019 vehicles that can cause the engine to stall while driving.
The fuel pump defect spans two overlapping recalls affecting 2014–2019 models, with the 2019 model year covered by both. When the pump fails, the engine loses power without warning, raising the risk of a crash. On 2019 models specifically, a separate fuel delivery pipe issue can also cause a fuel leak at the pressure sensor connection, which creates a fire risk near ignition sources in the engine compartment.
The Takata airbag inflator recalls cover 2006–2013 model years across multiple filings, all describing the same underlying hazard: the passenger-side frontal airbag inflator can rupture or explode, sending metal fragments into the cabin. Several of these filings are geographically scoped to high-humidity states and territories where the risk is elevated, though some filings apply more broadly. This is among the most serious defects in the model's history and affected a wide range of production years.
Going back to 2006–2013 models, the fuel pulsation damper diaphragm can harden and crack over time, leaking fuel that can ignite if it contacts a heat source. The 2006–2011 model years have a variable valve timing gear assembly where the housing and sprocket bolts can loosen, causing the components to separate and the engine to stall while moving. The 2006 model year alone carries three additional issues: valve springs that can degrade and break, causing rough running or sudden engine failure; a fuel delivery pipe that can leak at the pressure sensor gasket; and wiper arm nuts that may not have been tightened sufficiently at the factory, allowing the wipers to slip and stop clearing the windshield under heavy snow load.
