10 recalls across 15 model years
The Lexus RX350 has 10 recalls spanning 2008 through 2023, with the most serious being a stuck accelerator pedal on 2010 models that can prevent the driver from slowing the vehicle and raise the risk of a crash at high speed.
The 2023 model year has a clockspring defect in the steering column that can deactivate the driver's airbag, leaving it unable to deploy in a crash. On 2019 and 2021 models, a transport hook left on the fuel filler pipe during manufacturing can damage that pipe in a rear-end collision and raise the risk of a fuel-fed fire. The 2017 through 2020 model years share a fuel pump defect where the pump can fail and stall the engine while driving. The 2017 model year also has a separate brake booster vacuum pump issue where the internal rotor can be machined incorrectly, causing a sudden loss of brake assist.
The 2016 model year carries three distinct recalls. The electronic stability control system can generate insufficient brake fluid pressure, reducing the driver's ability to control the vehicle. Separately, pressure and acceleration sensors in the airbag system can fail, preventing side, curtain, and front airbags from deploying in a crash. A small subset of 2016 vehicles built in late November and December 2015 also have a driver's knee airbag inflator with a weld defect that lets inflation gas escape, leaving the knee airbag unable to deploy.
Going back further, 2011 models equipped with Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management have incorrectly calibrated hydraulic control valves that can increase stopping distances and reduce the system's ability to correct a slide. The 2008 through 2011 model years share the accelerator pedal defect noted in the lead.
