Summary
The 2021 Lincoln Aviator has 16 recalls, the most serious involving a steering knuckle that can fracture and cause loss of steering control, a high-voltage battery on plug-in hybrid models that can short internally and catch fire or cut drive power, and engine and fuel system faults that can cause sudden power loss.
On the powertrain side, certain engines with 2.7L or 3.0L EcoBoost engines may have intake valves that can break and cause the engine to fail, while a failing low-pressure fuel pump can also cut power without warning. A loose motor mount can allow the axle to disconnect from the engine, again cutting drive power. There is also a wiring harness on some 3.0L gasoline models that can contact the air conditioning compressor pulley and short-circuit, raising the risk of a fire.
Several recalls involve occupant restraint: seat belt anchor bolts at the second-row outer and center positions, as well as the retractor anchor bolts, may be loose and fail to hold an occupant in a crash. The seat belt warning chime on vehicles with the Revel Audio System may not sound long enough to alert an unbelted driver, and prior repair attempts for that issue did not fully resolve it for all affected vehicles.
The rear suspension module on some vehicles may have been assembled with incorrect components, affecting ride height, handling, and braking. Three separate recalls cover rear visibility: the backup camera can go blank, flicker, or fail to display at all when the vehicle is put into reverse.
