The 2008 Lincoln MKX has 6 recalls, the most serious being Takata airbag inflators on both the driver and passenger sides that can explode and send metal fragments into the cabin, posing a risk of serious injury or death.
The airbag concern covers both front inflators: prolonged exposure to heat and humidity causes the propellant inside to degrade, and the inflator can rupture violently during a crash deployment rather than inflating the bag normally. These recalls are particularly relevant for vehicles registered or driven in hot, humid regions.
There are also two fuel system recalls describing the same underlying defect: a dimple can form at a spot weld on the bottom of the fuel tank, allowing fuel to drip or seep from the tank. If that leaked fuel contacts an ignition source, it can start a fire.
