Summary
The Maserati GranTurismo has 11 recalls spanning 2008 through 2024, with the most serious being a faulty airbag control unit on 2015–2018 models where a defective internal capacitor can either deactivate the airbags entirely or trigger an unexpected deployment while driving. On 2024 models, the body control module software can display an incorrect fuel level, causing the engine to stall without warning while driving. There is also a tire information label on 2024 vehicles that can detach from the B-pillar, a compliance issue rather than a mechanical defect.
Going back to 2016, several issues converge on that model year. The main fuel delivery line can corrode and leak fuel, raising the risk of fire near an ignition source. A separate airbag control unit fault on 2016 models can prevent the system from working in a crash or cause airbags and seatbelt pretensioners to fire without impact. The passenger-side door latch on certain 2016 vehicles was not properly hardened at the factory, meaning the door can swing open in a crash.
On the mechanical side, 2009 models with the optional front parking sensor system have instrument cluster software that disables the seatbelt reminder buzzer, leaving occupants without an audible alert when belts are unbuckled. That same year, rear suspension tie rods on 2009 vehicles can fail, causing a sudden loss of directional control.
The 2008–2010 model years share a faulty rear lamp assembly where both the tail lights and brake lights can fail, making the vehicle harder for following traffic to see. On 2008 models specifically, a software fault in the airbag control unit can cause the passenger airbag and seatbelt pretensioner to remain inactive in a crash when the battery is not fully charged.
