2 recalls across 1 model year
The Mercedes-Benz 400 has 2 recalls, both affecting the 1992 model year and both carrying the risk of an engine compartment fire. On vehicles equipped with the ASR automatic slip control system, a brake hose routed near the auxiliary cooling fan's pre-resistor can melt from the heat that component generates and ignite, starting a fire under the hood. The second issue affects all 1992 models: in high ambient temperatures, a saturated charcoal canister can expel fuel vapor onto the same type of hot pre-resistor when the engine is restarted after a short stop, which can also result in an underhood fire.
