The 1992 Mercedes-Benz 400 has two recalls, both involving fire risks in the engine compartment tied to the same auxiliary cooling fan pre-resistor component running hot enough to ignite nearby parts.

In the first scenario, on hot days when the car is parked and then restarted shortly after, the charcoal canister that captures fuel vapors can become saturated and vent those vapors directly onto the hot pre-resistor, which can start an underhood fire. On vehicles equipped with the optional ASR automatic slip control system, a brake hose routed too close to that same pre-resistor can melt from the heat and catch fire.
