Mercedes-Benz Gle 450 Recalls

The Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 has 41 recalls covering the 2020–2024 model years, with the most serious recent issue being a 2024 model year defect where the accelerator pedal module bracket can break or detach, leaving the driver unable to control vehicle speed.

On 2024 models, incorrect screws on the high-pressure fuel pump can also allow fuel and oil to leak onto the road, raising the risk of fire and creating a hazard for other vehicles. A separate fuel pump issue affecting 2022–2024 models can shut down without warning, cutting drive power entirely. The 2021–2022 model years have a steering coupling locking screw that can loosen and fall out of the steering gear, causing a complete loss of steering control. Those same years also have a loose 12-volt ground connection under the driver seat that can overheat and start a fire, and a front acceleration sensor wiring harness that may be routed incorrectly, preventing front airbags from deploying in a crash. A 48-volt ground connection under the passenger seat can overheat and ignite on 2020–2024 models, and a separate 48-volt ground cable under the front passenger seat carries the same fire risk on 2020–2022 models. On 2021 models, loose ground connection bolts on the passenger-side electric heater can also overheat the wiring and cause a fire.

The 2020–2023 model years share a transmission software defect where the gearbox can fail to complete a downshift, stalling the engine. On 2020–2021 models, the electronic stability program software can apply torque to a front wheel during an evasive maneuver, pulling the vehicle sideways unexpectedly. Incorrectly installed air conditioner drain hoses on 2020–2021 models allow water to collect in the footwells, where it can corrode or short-circuit electrical components and cause a fire. The 2021–2022 fuel pump can also shut down and cut drive power, an issue that overlaps with the broader 2022–2024 campaign. Rear door window trim bars can detach and become road hazards on 2020–2023 models. The backup camera on 2020–2021 models can display a black screen or reboot on startup, and the multimedia system software carries the same risk on those years.

The 2020 model year carries the heaviest concentration of individual issues. The rear crossmember welds may be insufficient, and under towing loads the crossmember can crack and detach from the vehicle. A fuel injector leak on 2020 models can allow gasoline to escape near hot engine components. The fuel filler pipe weld on 2020 4MATIC models can also leak fuel near ignition sources. The front struts and rear shock absorbers on 2020 models can leak and wear prematurely, degrading handling. The automatic emergency braking radar on 2020 models can be impaired, preventing the system from applying braking when needed. On 2020 models with electrically adjustable second-row seats, the wiring harness under the seat can be pinched during adjustment and damage the wires, causing rear side airbags to fail in a crash.
