31 recalls across 13 model years
The Mercedes-Benz AMG C43 has 31 recalls spanning 2016 through 2024, with the most serious recent issue being defective 80-amp fuses on 2023-2024 models that can fail and cause sudden loss of drive power, disable airbags and seatbelt systems, or knock out the instrument cluster.
On 2023 models, a transmission wiring harness that is too short can chafe and damage itself, cutting drive power without warning. Also on 2023 models, ground connections in the electrical wiring harness may not be secured, allowing the harness to overheat and start a fire. A separate 2023 wiring issue affects AMG C43 4MATIC vehicles with AMG Performance seats specifically: the seat wiring harness can be damaged when the seat reclines fully, preventing the seat-mounted airbags from deploying in a crash. The driver-side seatbelt anchor can also come loose on 2023-2024 vehicles, leaving the belt unable to restrain the occupant properly.
The fuel pump can shut down and cut drive power on 2021-2023 vehicles, and a fuel injector seal on 2020 models can leak fuel near hot engine components, raising the risk of a fire. On 2019 models, a software fault can stall the engine, and a separate software issue can inadvertently disable the electronic stability control. The 2019 model year also has a radar sensor fault that can prevent the automatic emergency braking system from applying as expected, and the seatbelt tensioners on 2019 cabriolet and coupe variants may not activate in a crash.
Going back to 2017-2020 production, the adhesive bonding the front roof panel can deteriorate and allow the panel to detach and become a road hazard, and a prior repair attempt on some 2017-2020 vehicles that addressed this same panel may not have fully resolved the issue. On 2017-2018 cabriolet models, the rear beltline trim can separate from the body while driving. The front seatbacks on 2017-2018 coupe and cabriolet variants may not lock properly on the right side, allowing them to fold forward in a crash. The 2017 model year has a seatbelt pretensioner that may not function in a crash, and a small number of 2017 vehicles have an electric power steering control unit with a faulty contact pin that can deactivate steering assist.
The 2018-2019 12-volt battery mounting bracket may not hold the battery securely, allowing it to shift in a crash and disconnect, disabling hazard lights and emergency communication. The passenger airbag status indicator on 2018 models can display the airbag as active when it is not, leaving a front passenger unaware they have no airbag protection. On 2018 AMG Performance seat-equipped vehicles, the seat backrest welds may not hold in a crash. The eCall emergency notification system can fail to transmit an accurate location on 2017-2021 models, and the rearview camera can fail to display an image on 2019-2021 vehicles. LED headlights on 2019-2020 models may have been set to an incorrect angle during a prior repair, reducing forward visibility. The 2016-2018 driver airbag carries a risk of inadvertent deployment. Front seatbelts on 2017-2020 vehicles may not fully retract, which can discourage occupants from wearing them.
