21 recalls across 9 model years
The Mercedes-Benz AMG GLE63 has 21 recalls spanning 2016 through 2024, with the most serious recent issue being a steering coupling locking screw on 2022 models that can loosen and detach from the steering gear, causing a complete loss of steering control.
On 2022-2024 models, the fuel pump can shut down without warning, cutting drive power while the vehicle is moving. A separate electrical concern on 2021 models involves a 48-volt ground cable bolt under the front passenger seat that may not be properly secured, allowing the cable to overheat and potentially start a fire. Also on 2021 models, incorrectly installed air conditioner drain hoses can direct water into the passenger footwells, where it can corrode wiring or cause short circuits that raise the fire risk. The middle rear seat belt buckle on 2021 five-passenger models can fall into the gap below the seat cushion and become unretrievable, leaving that seating position without a functioning restraint. The 2019-2021 model years have an emergency call system that can fail to connect to emergency services or transmit an incorrect location after a crash.
Going back to the 2016-2020 range, water can collect in the spare tire well and damage the fuel pump control unit, stalling the engine while driving. The 2016-2019 model years are subject to a roof front panel whose adhesive bonding can deteriorate and allow the panel to separate from the vehicle and become a road hazard. On 2016 models, water intrusion into the electric power steering control unit can deactivate steering assist. The 2016-2017 model years have two separate front passenger airbag concerns: the passenger seat occupant classification sensor may not correctly identify the occupant, and the airbag inflator module may not function as designed in a crash, both of which can leave the front passenger without proper airbag protection.
The 2018 model year has a brake system issue that can reduce stopping performance. The 2017 model year has a center console latch that can release in a crash, sending loose objects into the cabin, as well as a door latch that can allow a door that appears locked to open unexpectedly. On 2016 models specifically, the front suspension can leak oil onto ignition sources, raising the risk of fire. Early production 2016 models also have rear driveshaft fasteners that can loosen and allow the driveshaft to separate from the transmission or rear differential, stalling the vehicle.
