19 recalls across 7 model years
The Mercedes-Benz AMG GLS63 has 19 recalls spanning the 2017–2023 model years, with the most serious being a 48-volt electrical ground connection under the front passenger seat on 2021–2023 models that can overheat and start a fire.
The 2022–2023 model years also share a fuel pump that can shut down without warning, cutting drive power while the vehicle is in motion. On 2022–2023 examples, rear door window trim bars can detach at highway speed and become a road hazard. The same trim bar detachment issue affects 2021 models as well.
The 2021 model year carries several additional concerns. A separate ground cable bolt for the 48-volt system under the passenger seat can work loose and overheat the wiring, also raising fire risk. Incorrectly installed air conditioner drain hoses can allow water to pool in the footwells, where it can corrode electrical components or cause a short circuit and fire. Third-row seatback locks can fail in a crash, leaving rear occupants without proper restraint. The backup camera display can go black or reboot on startup, removing rear visibility when reversing. Interior switch illumination can fail, making controls harder to find while driving. The emergency call system on 2017–2021 models can malfunction and either send responders to the wrong location or fail to connect at all.
The 2018 model year has a hydraulic brake issue that reduces stopping performance. Going back to 2017, the passenger seat sensor can misread the front passenger and cause the airbag to deploy incorrectly or not at all in a crash. Water can enter the electric power steering control unit and deactivate steering assist, making the vehicle significantly harder to steer. A door latch fault can allow a door that appears locked to open unexpectedly. In certain crashes, the center console can unlatch and send loose objects flying through the cabin. A software fault in the emergency call system can transmit an inaccurate vehicle location to emergency responders. The 2017 model year also has a front suspension oil leak that raises fire risk near ignition sources.
