10 recalls across 15 model years
The Mercedes-Benz CLS550 has 10 recalls spanning the 2010–2017 model years, with the most serious being a hood latch issue on certain 2012 models where the secondary latch striker bolts can loosen, leaving the hood secured only by the primary latch and at risk of flying open while driving.
A separate hood-related fire risk affects 2013–2015 models, where a rubber seal can fall into the engine compartment and contact hot exhaust components. A narrower version of this same issue covers certain 2015 models manufactured within a one-week window in April of that year. On 2012–2014 models, a software fault can prevent airbags from deploying correctly in a crash, raising the risk of injury.
The 2012–2015 model years have LED tail lights that can fail to illuminate on the sides, making the vehicle harder for other drivers to see from the rear. On 2013–2015 vehicles, the emergency call system can report an incorrect date, time, and vehicle location to emergency responders after a crash, potentially delaying help. The 2017 model year has a related eCall software fault that can also send responders to the wrong location.
Going back to the earlier production years, 2010–2011 models have a sunroof glass panel that can separate from its frame and detach from the vehicle while in motion, becoming a hazard for surrounding traffic.
