Mercedes-Benz E 300 Recalls

The Mercedes-Benz E 300 has 11 recalls covering the 2018-2019 model years, with the most serious being a fuel injector leak on 2019 models where escaping fuel near hot engine or exhaust components can start a fire.

The 2019 model year also has a recall where the automatic emergency braking system can fail to apply partial or full braking when it detects an imminent collision, and a separate issue where the rearview camera can go blank due to a software error, reducing visibility when reversing. Three recalls on 2019 models involve the emergency call system: in different failure modes, the system can either stop working entirely or send emergency responders to the wrong location after a crash.

On 2018 models, a steering rack defect on rear-wheel-drive versions can prevent the driver from properly steering the vehicle. A separate 2018 recall covers the starter battery cover, which may not fully shield the positive terminal; in a crash, the strut brace can deform, short the battery, disable emergency door unlocking from outside the vehicle, and raise the risk of fire. The passenger seat sensor on 2018 models can be miscalibrated, meaning the front passenger airbag may not deactivate when a child seat is installed in that position, which raises the risk of injury to a child in a crash.

Spanning both model years, the seatbelt pretensioners and the pre-crash seat positioning system may not activate during a collision, reducing occupant protection. Vehicles from 2017-2019 that have had the instrument cluster replaced may be missing the audible and visual seatbelt reminder, which can cause front occupants to go unbelted without realizing it.
