MERCEDES-BENZ GLS 580 Recalls

The Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 has 7 recalls spanning 2019 through 2024, with the most serious being an improperly secured 48-volt ground connection under the passenger seat on 2020-2023 models that can overheat and start a fire. The remaining recalls are concentrated heavily in the 2020 model year. Two separate airbag issues affect 2020 GLS 580s: in one, the front airbag wiring harness can be routed incorrectly and prevent the airbag from deploying properly in a crash; in another, a software error in the airbag control unit can cause the driver's airbag to deploy incorrectly. Both conditions raise the risk of injury when the vehicle needs that protection most. Third-row seatback locks on 2020-2022 models can fail in a crash, meaning rear occupants may not be properly restrained. On 2020-2021 models, seats that were assembled incorrectly may also not hold an occupant securely during a collision. Rounding out the 2020 model year, the sunroof can close unexpectedly when car wash mode is activated, posing a pinch risk to occupants or objects in the opening, and the rear door window trim can detach while driving and become a road hazard for surrounding traffic.
