8 recalls across 5 model years
The Mercedes-Benz S600 has 8 recalls covering 2011 through 2017 model years, with the most serious being a loss of electric power steering assist on 2016 models where control unit pin connections can fail, leaving the driver with significantly heavier steering effort and raising the risk of a crash.
On 2017 models, the front seatbelt pretensioners can fail to tighten the belt in a crash, leaving occupants less restrained than intended. Also on 2017 models, a door latch fault can cause a door that appears locked to open unexpectedly, and the emergency call system can relay the wrong location to first responders after a crash due to a software fault affecting date and time data.
The 2015-2016 model years have two related roof panel concerns: the adhesive bonding on the front roof panel between the windshield and panoramic sunroof can deteriorate or may not have been applied correctly during a prior repair, allowing the panel to detach while driving and become a hazard for other vehicles. These years also have the same emergency call location error described above.
Going back to the 2011-2012 model years, a compliance issue with the tire pressure monitoring system means that if all four wheel sensors fail or go missing simultaneously, the system gives an initial warning but does not repeat it on subsequent ignition cycles, potentially leaving the driver unaware of underinflated tires.
