5 recalls across 4 model years
The Mitsubishi Galant has 5 recalls spanning the 2003-2010 model years, with the most serious being a corroding transmission fluid cooler pipe on 2010 models that can develop a hole, leak fluid, and start a fire if the fluid contacts an ignition source.
The 2003 model year carries a similar fire risk from a different source: a restricted fitting on the fuel pump's return line can cause fuel pressure to build until the return hose pops free and spills fuel near hot engine components. On 2005 models, the brake master cylinder can be assembled incorrectly, reducing hydraulic pressure and noticeably lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle. Also on 2005 models, a fuel tank mounting strap bracket can split at the bolt point, potentially allowing the tank to lose its support from the underframe. The 2004 model year has a key interlock cable that can fail and allow the ignition key to be removed while the transmission is still out of park, leaving the vehicle free to roll if the parking brake is not set.
