PEUGEOT 405 Recalls

The Peugeot 405 has 5 recalls covering the 1989 and 1991 model years, with the most serious being a wiring harness defect on 1991 Mi 16 sedans where the harness can rub against the alternator housing, wear through its insulation, cut off fuel delivery, and start an engine compartment fire. The 1989 model year accounts for the remaining four recalls. Two involve fire risk: the fuel supply line can contact a high-voltage wire in the engine compartment and deteriorate over time until fuel leaks and ignites, and in a rear collision the fuel system can leak beyond safe limits. On the visibility side, the polycarbonate headlight lenses on 1989 models can gradually cloud and lose clarity, dimming output and reducing nighttime visibility. There is also a brake lamp compliance issue on 1989 vehicles where the wiring prevents the brake lights from being checked when the ignition is between the "on" and "start" positions, meaning a burned-out brake bulb can go undetected.
