6 recalls across 2 model years
The Plymouth Laser has 6 recalls covering the 1990-1991 model years, with the most serious affecting 1990 all-wheel-drive models where insufficient lubrication in the transfer case can cause it to seize and lock the wheels while driving.
The 1990 model year also has a sunroof that can detach from the roof if the latch handle is operated in an unintended way, sending the panel onto the road as a hazard for following traffic. There is also a windshield bonding issue on 1990 models where a diluted primer applied during assembly can weaken the adhesive seal, leaving the windshield at risk of separating from the body in a crash. Rounding out the 1990 recalls, models equipped with the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine have an oxygen sensor that can deteriorate from excess heat, causing carbon monoxide emissions to exceed allowable limits. The 1991 model year has a similar oxygen sensor issue on turbocharged 2.0-litre engines, where the sensor can fail and push emissions out of compliance.
