Pontiac G8 Recalls

The Pontiac G8 has 7 recalls covering the 2008–2009 model years, with the most serious being an ignition key position issue on 2008–2009 vehicles where the key can be nudged out of the run position, preventing airbags from deploying in a crash.

The 2008–2009 model years also have two separate airbag-related concerns. On 2008–2009 vehicles, the front passenger airbag can experience a delay between its first and second deployment stages when the seat is in the full forward position, reducing protection in a crash. Separately, 2008–2009 models have a frontal crash airbag calibration issue where the system's response can result in higher head injury forces on smaller front-seat occupants during a frontal impact.

Also affecting 2008–2009 vehicles, the steel cable anchoring the front outboard seatbelts to the vehicle structure can fatigue and separate over time, leaving an occupant without proper restraint in a crash. The 2009 model year has an additional issue where the brake pedal position switch can be incorrectly programmed, causing the brake lights to stay on after the pedal is released and potentially confusing drivers behind the vehicle about whether the car is actually slowing down.
