The 2008 Pontiac G8 has 6 recalls, the most serious involving the ignition switch, which a driver's knee can accidentally nudge out of the run position and prevent the airbags from deploying in a crash.
Two additional recalls affect the front airbag system. When the front passenger seat is pushed fully forward, a seat position sensor can delay the second stage of the dual-stage airbag during a crash, increasing the risk of head injury to that occupant. A related filing covers the same airbag deployment timing concern, where testing showed head injury thresholds could be exceeded in a frontal crash.
On the restraint side, the flexible steel cable anchoring the front outboard seatbelts to the vehicle structure can fatigue and break over time, leaving the occupant without proper belt attachment in a crash. Both the original defect and a separate filing describe this same seatbelt anchor cable failure, so the concern applies to the front seats on both sides of the vehicle.
