The steering box retaining screws can loosen due to assembly lubricants in the mounting holes, reducing steering responsiveness and making the car feel less direct. There is also a separate issue where the steering rack mounting bolts can work loose, allowing the rack to shift on the chassis, which causes an off-center steering wheel, imprecise steering feel, and potential damage to the rack itself.
