18 recalls across 11 model years
The Porsche Cayenne S has 18 recalls spanning 2003 through 2024, with the most serious recent issue affecting 2024 models where loose high-pressure fuel pump connections can leak fuel and create a fire risk.
The 2024 model year also has a lighting software issue where rear hazard warning lights and parking lights can fail to illuminate if activated within 10 seconds of shutting the vehicle off, reducing visibility to other drivers. A separate software defect on 2024 models causes front turn signals to display the wrong color when hazard lights are active while parked.
On 2020-2021 Cayenne Coupe, Cayenne S Coupe, Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe, Cayenne GTS, and Cayenne GTS Coupe vehicles, a missing seat back heating element can throw off the passenger seat's occupant classification system, causing the front passenger airbag to fail to deploy in a crash. The 2019 model year has a recall where the brake pad wear indicator may not alert the driver when pads are worn down, leaving the driver without warning before braking performance degrades.
Going back to the 2011-2013 range, headlights on certain vehicles may be improperly aimed, either failing to light the road ahead adequately or creating glare for oncoming drivers. The 2011 model year has two separate engine concerns: camshaft controllers can work loose inside the engine and cause a stall, and headlamp assemblies that were not properly secured during assembly can detach while driving, reducing the driver's visibility and becoming a hazard for other road users. The 2011-2012 Cayenne S Hybrid has a fuel injection system that can leak, raising the risk of fire near an ignition source.
Earlier production from 2003-2006 carries several fuel system concerns. The fuel pump flange on these vehicles can crack and allow fuel to leak, and a faulty ground connection at the fuel filler neck can generate a static spark during refueling that could ignite fuel vapors. The 2004 model year has a transfer case where the oil pump can rotate out of position, starving the internal gears of oil and eventually fracturing the transfer case housing if driving continues.
The 2003 model year has the densest recall history. The foot-operated parking brake springs can rub against the main wiring harness, potentially causing electrical failures or a fire under the instrument panel. The transmission shifter can detach from the transmission, leaving the vehicle in a different gear than the shifter shows and creating a risk of unexpected movement. On V8-equipped 2003 models, the fuel pump flange can also develop cracks and leak fuel. The driver's seat frame on 2003 vehicles may have inadequate welds that can break in a crash. There is also a concern where the vehicle can be exited without the transmission in Park and without the parking brake applied, allowing it to roll away, and a compliance issue where the steering wheel does not lock when the key is removed under certain conditions.
