21 recalls across 5 model years
The Rivian R1T has 21 recalls covering 2022 through 2025 model years, with the most serious recent issue affecting 2025 vehicles where a faulty grounding connection inside the high-voltage distribution box can cut drive power without warning, raising the risk of a crash.
On 2025 models, the Hands-Free Highway Assist system can also fail to recognize a vehicle ahead, and front turn signals can stop illuminating and flashing. These three 2025 issues are separate from one another but all affect the same model year.
Restraint and airbag integrity account for a significant cluster of recalls across 2022 through 2025. Front seat belt D-ring anchor bolts on 2022-2025 vehicles may not be properly installed, leaving the belt unable to hold an occupant in a crash. Second-row seat belt retractor bolts on 2022-2025 models can also be insufficiently tightened, with the same result. On 2022 models specifically, front seat belt anchors may be inadequately attached to the B-pillar, and front seat belts on some vehicles may not have been installed correctly at all, allowing them to loosen or detach in a crash. Second-row outboard seat belts on 2023 models have a similar installation issue. Airbag protection is also affected across several years: on 2022-2024 vehicles, damaged clips on the upper B-pillar or C-pillar trim panels can cause side curtain airbags to deploy incorrectly in a crash. On 2022 models, a faulty sensor in the front passenger seat belt system can cause the passenger airbag to be suppressed or deploy incorrectly, and the passenger seat sensor may fail to deactivate the airbag when a child or child seat is present.
Chassis and suspension recalls span most of the production run. On 2022-2025 vehicles that have had service work, a rear toe link can be reassembled incorrectly and later separate, reducing directional stability. A related issue on 2022 models involves rear toe links that may not have been properly reinstalled after service, with the same risk of separation and loss of control. On 2022 models, the fastener connecting the front upper control arm to the steering knuckle may be loose and can separate, causing a sudden loss of steering.
The 2022 accelerator pedal system can fail to detect when the driver lifts off the pedal, preventing the vehicle from engaging auto-hold or park and allowing unintended movement. Going into the 2022-2023 range, a software update inadvertently disabled defroster and defogger controls, reducing forward visibility in cold or humid conditions. Headlights on 2023-2024 models may be aimed too low or too high, reducing road illumination at night. A missing airbag warning label on some 2024 vehicles means occupants may not be aware of the risks of placing a child in the front seat. On 2022-2023 models, the tire placard shows an incorrect maximum load weight, which can lead to overloading without the driver realizing it.
