The 2001 Subaru Legacy has 7 recalls, the most serious being a cruise control cable that can stick and prevent the throttle from returning to idle, along with a front steering component that can separate and cause sudden loss of steering control.
There is also a fuel system concern: aging under-hood fuel hoses can crack and leak at very cold temperatures, and any nearby ignition source could start a fire. Two recalls cover the same underlying seat rail issue, where a weld on the front seat latch mechanism can break and leave the seat unable to lock in position, meaning the seat could shift unexpectedly. On the restraint side, two filings describe the same defect: certain Legacy Sedans with beige interiors received rear center seatbelts cut to the shorter length used on wagon models, leaving the belt too short to properly restrain the occupant in a crash.
