The 2008 Subaru WRX has 6 recalls, the most serious being a defective airbag inflator that can explode and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve this issue, which is why multiple recall campaigns address the same underlying airbag inflator problem. On the electrical side, a replacement ignition switch with a weak internal spring can cause the engine to shut off unexpectedly while driving, and if a crash follows, the airbags may not deploy. The brakes also have two concerns: corroded brake lines can leak fluid, extending the stopping distance and raising the risk of a crash, and a faulty brake light switch can prevent the brake lights from illuminating, leaving drivers behind unaware the vehicle is slowing.
