Summary
The Suzuki SX4 has 13 recalls spanning the 2006–2013 production run, with the most serious being a torque converter drive plate bolt issue on 2013 models where loose bolts can wedge between the drive plate and cylinder block, stalling the engine and cutting drive power while moving.
The 2013 model year also has a transmission control module circuit board that can develop a crack, causing the transmission to lose proper control and reducing vehicle speed and acceleration unexpectedly. On 2012–2013 vehicles, the power steering pump can seize due to insufficient clearance between its internal components, which makes the wheel noticeably harder to turn at low speeds. This same pump seizure issue can occur on 2012 models specifically after the vehicle has sat overnight in cold temperatures, with the stiffness appearing suddenly on initial low-speed maneuvering.
The 2010 model year has a shift lock defect where a mispositioned detent pin can allow the transmission selector to move out of Park without pressing the brake pedal, particularly in high heat conditions.
On 2007–2011 vehicles, the passenger seat sensor mat that determines whether a front passenger is an adult or a child can wear out over time from repeated seat use, losing the ability to accurately classify occupants. If the sensor fails and misidentifies a child as an adult, the front passenger airbag can deploy in a crash when it should not, raising the risk of injury to that child.
The 2008–2010 models equipped with a Garmin GPS navigation unit contain a battery that can overheat and potentially catch fire. On 2007–2010 models, the three screws holding each exterior mirror to its base can vibrate loose, and in the worst case the mirror can detach entirely, removing a driver's side or rearview sightline.
The 2010 model year has a label recall where the tire and loading information placard may show an incorrect tire size.
