2020 Toyota Avalon Recalls & Complaints

The 2020 Toyota Avalon has 4 recalls, the most serious being two separate risks of engine stall while driving: a fuel pump that can fail without warning and, on Hybrid models with the 2.5L four-cylinder engine, an engine block that can crack and leak coolant internally until the engine overheats.

Both stall scenarios raise the risk of a crash, particularly in traffic. Two recalls also affect the airbag system. Damaged breakaway pins in the steering column can interfere with the driver's airbag, meaning it may not deploy correctly in a crash. The front passenger seat's occupant classification sensor can also malfunction, causing the passenger airbag to skip deployment when it should fire.
