5 recalls across 3 model years
The Toyota BZ4X has 5 recalls covering 2023 through 2025 model years, with the most serious affecting 2023 vehicles where hub bolts can loosen and allow a wheel to fully detach while driving, creating an immediate loss of vehicle control.
The 2023 through 2025 model years share two additional recalls. On vehicles equipped with the Panoramic View Monitor system, a software error can cause the rearview camera to freeze or go blank when the vehicle is in reverse, reducing the driver's view behind the vehicle. A separate issue affects the defroster and defogger: when certain heating and cooling system faults occur, such as an electric compressor failure, the defroster and defogger can stop working entirely, leaving the windshield and windows unable to clear in cold or humid conditions.
The 2023 and 2024 model years have a labeling issue where the maximum cargo and passenger weight listed on the vehicle may be incorrect, which can lead to overloading. The 2023 model year also has a VIN error that makes it impossible to identify the vehicle's make from the number alone, though this does not affect how the vehicle operates.
