The 2023 Toyota bZ4X has 5 recalls, the most serious involving hub bolts that can loosen and allow a wheel to detach while driving, which can cause a sudden loss of vehicle control.
On the visibility side, two recalls affect what the driver can see in certain conditions. A software error can cause the rearview camera to freeze or go blank when the vehicle is in reverse, cutting off the view behind the car. Separately, if certain electrical faults occur in the HVAC system, the defroster and defogger can stop working, leaving windows fogged or iced over with no way to clear them. The remaining two recalls are administrative in nature: one involves a VIN error that makes the vehicle's make unverifiable from the number alone, and the other concerns an incorrect maximum load weight label, which could lead an owner to overload the vehicle.
