A faulty universal joint on the intermediate steering shaft can fracture and disconnect, causing complete loss of steering. On the brake side, a software problem can cause the brake pedal to suddenly change in feel and travel distance when braking through a turn, temporarily reducing braking force and extending stopping distances.
