The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander has 4 recalls, the most serious involving the side curtain airbags, which may not unroll properly and can partially deploy out of an open window instead of covering the interior, leaving occupants with reduced protection in a crash.
The backup camera system also has a concern: a software error can cause the rearview camera to freeze or go blank while the vehicle is in reverse, cutting off the driver's view of what is directly behind the vehicle. On the display side, a separate issue can cause the instrument panel to stop showing critical driving information while the vehicle is in motion, which reduces the driver's awareness of speed, warnings, or other data needed to react to road conditions. There is also a labeling issue on certain vehicles where the maximum cargo and passenger weight printed on the label may be incorrect, which could lead an owner to load the vehicle beyond its actual safe capacity without realizing it.
