2004 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER Recalls — Canada & USA

The 2004 Toyota Highlander has 4 recalls, the most serious involving a loose center console floor cover that can lean into the accelerator pedal and prevent it from returning to idle, leaving the driver unable to reduce engine power. Two recalls address brake performance. Brake fluid containing polymer lubricants, when replaced during maintenance with a standard fluid that lacks those polymers, can cause a rubber seal inside the brake master cylinder to dry out and curl. Over time this raises the risk of a brake fluid leak, a change in pedal feel, and reduced stopping power. There is also a compliance recall affecting vehicles sold through Southeast Toyota dealers: certain vehicles were sold without required labels showing load-carrying capacity limits, which can lead a driver to unknowingly overload the vehicle.
