4 recalls across 8 model years
The Toyota Prius Plug-In has 4 recalls spanning 2010 to 2026, with the most serious being a curtain shield airbag inflator weld that can crack on 2010 and 2012 models, ejecting metal fragments into the passenger cabin during a crash.
On 2025-2026 models, water can enter a rear door switch, cause a short circuit, and allow an unlocked rear door to swing open while the vehicle is moving. The 2025 model year also has a separate issue where a software error can cause the rearview camera to freeze or show a blank screen when reversing, reducing visibility behind the vehicle.
Going back to 2012-2015 production, the hybrid battery contains an EV fuse that can fracture after repeated high-load driving, such as climbing long hills. When the fuse fails, the hybrid system shuts down and the vehicle loses drive power, which raises the risk of a crash at highway speeds.
