The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has 3 recalls, all affecting 2019 model year vehicles, with the most serious being a porous engine block that can crack and cause coolant leaks, engine overheating, internal engine damage, and ultimately engine failure with a risk of fire.
The 2019 model year also has a brake booster pump that can fail, removing power-assisted braking and extending stopping distances. When this happens, the vehicle does alert the driver through both a warning light and an audible signal, and the electronic stability control system also turns off. There is also a damaged connector for the audio display unit that can prevent the backup camera from activating when the transmission is shifted into reverse, reducing rearward visibility while backing up.
