1998 Toyota RAV4

The 1998 Toyota RAV4 has 3 recalls, the most serious being a driver-side airbag inflator that can rupture in a crash and send metal fragments into the cabin, striking the driver or other occupants.

Two of the remaining recalls affect only the RAV4 EV. The front brake rotors on those electric models can develop stress fractures when the wheel lug nuts are over-torqued, and a fractured rotor can break apart at the wheel hub, causing the brake to lose stopping power on that corner of the vehicle. The transmission parking lock system on the same electric models presents a separate concern: if the vehicle is repeatedly shifted into park without the parking brake applied, a rod inside the transmission's parking lock mechanism can break and leave the vehicle with no way to hold itself stationary, raising the risk of an unintended rollaway.
