The 2021 Toyota Sienna has 4 recalls, the most serious involving wheelchair tie-down retractors on vehicles converted by Vantage Mobility that may not lock automatically, leaving a wheelchair unsecured and able to move in a crash.
Two other recalls affect occupant protection. The passenger seat sensor that determines whether the front airbag should deploy may not function correctly, causing the airbag to stay off in a crash when it should fire. On the third row, this recall only applies to hybrid models: seatback bolts may not be tightened to the correct specification, which can allow the seatback to give way in a crash and fail to hold the occupant in place. On the electronics side, a software issue in the stability control system can cause it to deactivate unexpectedly, reducing the vehicle's ability to maintain control during sharp maneuvers or slippery conditions.
