The 2010 Toyota Tacoma has 6 recalls, the most serious involving a leaf spring that can fracture and puncture the fuel tank, and a drive shaft that can crack and separate, dropping onto the road and causing loss of control. The leaf spring fracture raises the risk of a fuel leak and fire. The drive shaft issue applies to four-wheel drive models, where the shaft can separate completely and strike the ground, potentially causing a crash. On the throttle side, the driver's floor mat can trap the accelerator pedal in the wide-open position, making the vehicle difficult to slow or stop. Two recalls involve safety equipment. The driver's airbag can be deactivated if a flexible electrical cable inside the steering column is damaged, leaving the airbag non-functional in a crash. On Access Cab models, repeatedly slamming the rear doors can gradually loosen the screws holding the front seatbelt pretensioner in place; if the pretensioner detaches entirely, the belt will not tighten as intended during a collision.
