The 2022–2024 alternator wiring problem stems from wiring that can be routed incorrectly or make poor contact at the main harness connector, allowing heat and movement to damage the wires until they short. The result is a fire risk that can occur while riding.
On 2017 models, the clutch cable can rub against the main wiring harness cover, wearing through the insulation and damaging the wires inside. That damage can cut electrical power to the headlight, turn signals, or the engine itself, leaving the rider with a stalling motorcycle or no lighting.
The 2004 model year has a separate suspension recall where the rear shock absorber's lower eyelet can separate from the body of the unit due to a weak weld. If that eyelet breaks free while riding, the rear suspension loses its lower mount and the motorcycle becomes unstable, raising the risk of a crash.
