Summary
The Volkswagen Arteon has 5 recalls covering the 2019 and 2021 model years, with the most serious being a brake booster input rod that can detach on 2021 vehicles, causing the brake pedal to fail entirely and leaving the driver with little or no ability to slow the vehicle.
The 2019 model year has its own version of this brake issue: the electronic brake booster input rod can be installed incorrectly, either requiring significantly more pedal force to stop the vehicle or detaching altogether, which extends stopping distances. Recalls 2 and 3 in the input describe the same underlying defect on 2019 vehicles filed in two jurisdictions, so this is one problem, not two.
The 2021 model year also has two additional, less severe recalls. The rearview camera can malfunction during an ignition cycle, displaying a black screen or freezing the infotainment system, which removes rear visibility when backing up. Separately, the tire pressure monitoring system on 2021 models was incorrectly calibrated and may not correctly identify which tire is losing pressure after a rotation, potentially leaving a driver unaware of a dangerously underinflated tire.
