The 2007 Volvo S80 has 6 recalls, the most serious being a power steering hose that can burst and cause a sudden loss of steering assist, raising the risk of a crash. A misrouted return hose builds excess pressure in the power steering system until the hose fails and fluid is lost, leaving the driver with significantly heavier steering effort. Front seatbelts carry a separate concern: the steel cable anchoring each belt to the outside of the front seat can weaken over time and detach, leaving an occupant without restraint in a crash. On the electrical side, a software fault in the body control module can cause the windshield wipers to stop responding when switched on, or to run on their own when the driver has not activated them, either of which can reduce visibility in wet conditions. There is also a compliance issue involving the tire pressure monitoring system: the system's trigger level is set incorrectly, and the tire and loading information label in the vehicle contains wrong maximum inflation pressure figures.
