16 recalls across 6 model years
The Volvo VNL (4) has 15 recalls covering 2023 through 2027 model years, with the most serious being a dynamic steering malfunction on 2025-2026 vehicles where the oversteer guidance feature can fail and cause a complete loss of steering control.
On the braking side, 2025-2027 models have unprotected electrical connectors on the rear brake modulators that can short circuit and knock out both the anti-lock brake system and electronic stability control. On 2023-2025 vehicles, the service brakes can take longer than expected to activate, extending stopping distances, while 2025-2026 models have a separate issue where the brakes can be slow to release after application. The 2024-2027 model years have a parking brake concern on vehicles without auxiliary parking brakes: when the vehicle is in weight bias mode, there may not be enough weight over the parking brake axle to hold the vehicle, creating a rollaway risk.
The 2025 model year has an engine recall shared with other VN variants where idler gear bracket fasteners can come loose, allowing the gear to detach and stall the engine. There is also a single 2025 vehicle with a software error that prevents the anti-lock brake warning light from illuminating, meaning a brake system fault would go unannounced to the driver.
Several lighting recalls affect 2024-2026 and newer production. Automatic high beams on 2024-2026 models can fail to switch down to low beam, blinding oncoming drivers. Turn signals on 2025-2027 vehicles may not function properly, failing to signal lane changes or turns. On 2025-2026 models towing a trailer, the body control module can prevent trailer taillights and turn signals from illuminating. The 2026 model year alone has roof center marker lights that can fail to come on, reducing the vehicle's visibility to others, and a door latch cable that can be incorrectly installed and trap occupants inside. The instrument panel on 2025-2026 vehicles can go dark while driving, taking the speedometer and warning lights with it.
Going back to the earlier end of the production run, 2024-2026 models have load lock clamps on the back of the cab that can loosen and allow load lock bars to fall free, creating a road hazard. On 2023-2026 vehicles, the backlight behind the hazard switch can fail, making the control hard to locate in an emergency.
