The 2024 Volvo VNL (4) has 5 recalls, the most serious involving engine fasteners that may not be properly tightened, allowing an internal gear to break free, damage the engine, and cause a stall while underway. The second most pressing issue affects vehicles without auxiliary parking brakes: when the truck is in weight bias mode, there may not be enough weight over the parking brake axle to hold the vehicle, which can allow it to roll away. On the lighting side, the automatic high beam system may fail to switch down to low beams, leaving oncoming drivers with reduced visibility. There is also a cab equipment concern: load lock clamps on the back of the cab can loosen, allowing the load lock bars to shift free and drop cargo onto the road. A separate lighting issue involves the hazard switch backlight, which can go dark and make the switch harder to find in an emergency.
