The 2024 Volvo VNL has 5 recalls, the most serious involving the parking brake and service brakes: under certain load conditions the parking brake may not generate enough force to hold the truck, and the air brakes can take longer than expected to engage, extending stopping distances.
The parking brake concern applies when the truck is operating in weight bias mode, which can leave too little weight over the parking brake axle, allowing the vehicle to roll away. The air brake delay is a separate issue where the brakes are slow to activate from the moment the driver applies pressure, meaning the truck travels farther before slowing.
On the lighting side, two recalls cover different systems. The automatic high beam function can fail to switch down to low beams when oncoming traffic is present, leaving other drivers with reduced visibility. The backlight behind the hazard warning switch can also go dark, making the switch hard to locate in low-light conditions when it is needed quickly.
There is also a mechanical concern with the load lock clamps mounted on the back of the cab. These clamps can work loose, allowing the load lock bars they secure to come free. A bar that detaches while the truck is moving becomes a road hazard for other vehicles.
